Big city stress
New York City, or any other large city, can be an extremely stress inducing place to live or work. The Alexander Technique can’t reduce the stress of NYC; the Alexander Technique helps with the manifestations of the stress. The Alexander Technique helps by giving us more control; over ourselves. This conscious control leads towards empowerment, freedom, resulting in reduced stress and tension.
Becoming aware of unnecessary stress and tension is the first step. We can learn to cultivate the skill of awareness by practicing.
Release tension
Just as you can release tension in your arms, you could release the tension in your neck. Think of letting go of the muscles in the back of your neck. Let go of your jaw. Let it just dangle, with your lips apart. Then slowly let the lips come together without pressing them together. Let your head rotate slightly forward by lowering your nose, while the crown of your head moves up. Let go of your neck muscles again. Breathe fully and slowly.
You can reduce your stress in a New York minute by releasing excess muscular tension anywhere. Your overall stress will be reduced because the mind/body connection is bi-directional. To see 20 tips to reduce stress, click.
