The reason most people try to find an Alexander Technique teacher and start Alexander lessons is to fix their bad posture.

There are those who may have made the connection between their bad posture and their back/neck pain, or want to avoid that pain.

Fixing Bad Posture

Not too far into the process of learning the Alexander Technique, however, we may start to phase out the word ‘posture’, and substitute other words such as ’use’.  The connotation of the word “posture”, or “fixing bad posture”, is to sit up straight or stand up straight. This ‘sitting up straight’ business is impossible to maintain for very long. It is a stiff, fixed, rigid position, which is the antithesis of the Alexander Technique. Slumping, collapsing and compressing is also not the Alexander Technique.

Good Posture and the Alexander Technique

Although you definitely look like you have good posture when doing the Alexander Technique, you may feel ease, lightness, power, control, and freedom. The Alexander Technique-you may notice a lessening  tension and grip- inside and out. More control. More freedom.

The Alexander Technique is a lasting way to fix your posture.
