Doing the Alexander Technique helps you

The Alexander Technique becomes yours. The Alexander Technique will belong to you. You own it forever and no one can take it from you. Turn on and turn up the Alexander Technique principles anytime, anywhere. The Alexander Technique is for anything you’re doing in the moment. Use the Alexander Technique before work, during work, after work, on vacation and after retirement. Twenty-four seven, the Alexander Technique is you. You do the Alexander Technique yourself, and you can’t do it wrong.

As great as pilates can be, you don’t own it in the same way. You do pilates at certain times. But you don’t get to call on it in a crowded subway train, as you can with the AT. The Alexander Technique is portable, once you get a handle on the principles.

You don’t do the downward dog, or any other dog, on a city bus; at least not the buses I ride, but you can easily do the Alexander Technique on a bus. Do the Alexander Technique in a car, bowling alley, movie theatre, or sauna.

Acupuncture is not done by you, it is done to you, and only during treatment time. Although it’s rare to have an acupuncture treatment at 3AM, it’s not that rare to do the Alexander Technique at that hour. Even if you’re in bed.

Physical therapy is physical. The Alexander Technique involves your mind as well, helping you change detrimental postural habits like slumping or military posture.

What is the difference between chiropractic or massage therapy and the Alexander Technique?  You can do the Alexander Technique wearing a winter coat. And gloves. And it doesn’t require you to get all greasy. Or naked.

Do the Alexander Technique anywhere, anytime

You practice the Alexander Technique, anywhere. You don’t wait until you are at your at lesson to do the Alexander Technique; you do the Alexander Technique as you’re walking to your lesson.

The sidewalk is a perfect place for the Alexander Technique, as is the subway, the bus, the car, the office, the bathroom, and the library. You’re doing the Alexander Technique while you scuba, climb back on the boat, try out bassoons, watch baboons, blow up balloons, break bread and write run-on sentences. And sentence fragments.

You can’t name a place or a situation where the Alexander Technique can’t be used, though I’d love to hear your attempts. Please leave them, or any comments you have, below.
